I use computer models and neural cell culture recordings to understand how changes to the biophysical properties of individual neurons alter dynamics at the network level. My approach is to throughly investigate neural network models by simulation in silico, validate the simulation results via multi electrode array recording in vitro, then return to the model to ask questions that cannot be answered by experimental methods. I focus specifically on how changes to neural excitability that occur between sleeping and waking states impact learning and memory at the network level.
