My lab is interested in understanding how opioids affect the brainstem circuitry
that controls breathing, since respiratory depression is the cause of death from
opioid overdose. We use a variety of cellular and systems level approaches,
including ex vivo electrophysiology, circuit-tracing, and in vivo measurements of
breathing in rodent models.
