Our laboratory explores the reasons why the aging brain degenerates in various neurodegenerative diseases and seeks to develop therapies for these disorders. We investigate the polyglutamine expansion diseases, including inherited ataxias and Huntington disease, as well as Alzheimer’s disease and related protein conformational disorders. A major theme underlying much of our work is ubiquitin-dependent protein quality control in the brain.
