Biography/Resume:

Associate Professor, Biomedical Engineering

Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Principal Investigator, Laboratory of Integrated Brain Imaging

Director, Engineering Preclinical Imaging Center

Dr. Liu is interested in neural information processing in the brain. His lab uses brain-inspired principles to develop models for computer vision and natural language processing, and in turn uses such models to explain human brain activity and behavioral responses in naturalistic conditions. His lab is also interested in developing computational tools for analysis of brain data and its relations to behavioral and disease phenotypes.

Dr. Liu is interested in developing methods for combining functional MRI, electrophysiology, and neuromodulation to study brain function in animals and humans. Using the multimodal method, Dr. Liu is interested in understanding how the brain interacts with the gut, and how neuromodulation may regulate brain-gut interactions for treating neurological or gastric disorders
